muted

dumb, mute

这两个形容词均有“哑的，不能说话的”之意。
dumb: 可与mute换用，但dumb指原本没有说话能力或失去了说话能力。
mute: 多指因后天疾病而引起的聋哑，有时也指因故不说话。

动词 mute:

1. deaden (a sound or noise), especially by wrapping
   同义词：muffle, mute, dull, damp, dampen, tone down

形容词 muted:

1. in a softened tone
   同义词：hushed, subdued, quiet
2. being or made softer or less loud or clear
   同义词：dull, muffled, softened

1. He's a deaf mute and cannot tell anyone secret.
   他是个聋哑人，不会把他们的秘密告诉任何人。
2. He's mute on the subject of social system.
   他对社会制度的问题保持沉默。
