succeed

continue, resume, succeed, go on

这些动词或短语均有“继续”之意。
continue: 普通用词。或指持续而不停止，或有一段中断后又继续下去。
resume: 指中断后的继续。
succeed: 侧重指有规律地连续。
go on: 通俗用词，多用于口语中。go on+-ing表暂停后继续做原事，相当于后继续的内容与原来的内容相同。go on+不定式指做完某事后，接着做不同的另一件事。

动词 succeed:

1. attain success or reach a desired goal
   同义词：win, come through, bring home the bacon, deliver the goods
2. be the successor (of)
   同义词：come after, follow

1. I won the essay prize, then was offered a scholarship: nothing succeeds like success!
   我的作文得了奖，接著就获得了奖学金，真是一顺百顺！
2. Our plan succeeded, and soon we were in complete control.
   我们的计划顺利完成了，于是我们很快就控制了局面。
3. When the duke dies, his eldest son will succeed to the title.
   公爵去世之后，他的长子将继承他的爵位。
4. If you work hard you will succeed.
   如果你努力工作，你就会成功。
